HVAC
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning — known as HVAC — is the art of creating comfortable and healthy indoor environments that support everything that happens within a building.
At Jacksons Engineering, we specialise in creating breakthrough HVAC solutions designed around a client’s specific needs, to create the right indoor climate for all end users of a building, no matter what the application.

Plant upgrades
Plant upgrades
As an HVAC plant approaches the end of its economic life, replacement planning is time critical. You need to check plant capacities, speculate on future requirements, think about incorporating new technologies and introducing sustainable solutions, and plan the practicalities of the work. Done right, you’re setting a building up for the next 20 years of its life cycle.
We have developed a strong reputation for upgrade projects. Our comprehensive approach covers all aspects, from evaluation of new design requirements to electrical and builders work, cost planning and work programming.
Peer reviews
Peer reviews
We can also offer independent verification that systems are capable of meeting requirements, something that is becoming increasingly important to clients. Jacksons Engineering are able to provide our clients with peer review services for proposed concept, design, construction and commissioning plans.
Auditing services
Auditing services
We regularly conduct condition and operational audits, which provide hugely valuable insights to clients that help them understand and proactively manage their building services systems.
We also conduct technical due diligence reports, which underpin buying and selling decisions, and energy audits to support the drive for a better world through minimising energy and resource use.
We can also provide verification of after-hours plant operating costs to assist with cost recovery.
Building management systems
Building management systems
Jacksons Engineering are the industry leading specialists in the upgrade, replacement or performance improvement of Building Management and Control Systems (BMS).
By working closely with equipment manufacturers, suppliers and contractors, we ensure systems are well structured and robust, functioning correctly and properly commissioned before handover.
Building certification
Building certification
According to NZGBC, commercial buildings use 21 percent of New Zealand’s electricity, costing businesses $800 million every year. On average, the energy performance of those buildings could be improved by 20-25 percent.
As long-time members of the New Zealand Green Building Council, Jacksons Engineering can undertake GreenStar design and certification for new projects or guide you through Green Star performance certification for your existing building.
We were also instrumental in introducing NABERSNZ into the market in 2013 and became the first in New Zealand to offer certified NABERSNZ ratings. We are market leaders in guiding clients along the NABERSNZ journey towards lower emissions and lower energy costs, improving end user comfort and indoor air quality along the way.
Compliance
Compliance
Attaining minimum specified standards should be a given and is a guaranteed outcome when systems are designed to be fit-for-purpose.
Jacksons Engineering provide design (PS-1 & PS-2) producer statements, assist with resource and building consent documentation and design to comply with all applicable NZ Building Code and NZ Standards requirements.
Continuous commissioning and CMVP
Continuous commissioning and CMVP
Improving building performance is what drives us and nobody knows the field like we do. Continuous Commissioning (CCx) is a pro-active service we provide, to improve the operation of HVAC systems for the benefit of tenants and building owners alike. This results in improved tenant comfort, improved indoor air quality, reduced energy consumption, reduced reactive maintenance costs and extended plant life.
Jacksons Engineering co-wrote and delivered the Continuous Commissioning training course to our industry, via CEPNZ (Carbon and Energy Professionals NZ — previously the Energy Management Association). We are also Certified Measurement and Verification Professionals (CMVP), supporting verification of the benefits of CCx.
Industry training
Industry training
Education and training for our clients and the wider industry is a fundamental service we provide. We deliver our own industry training short courses to our clients, as well as delivering more formal training programmes such as the CEPNZ Commercial Buildings Energy Specialist, Continuous Commissioning and Energy Management for Facility Managers courses.

HVAC forensics
HVAC forensics
We have an established reputation as the ‘go-to’ experts when an HVAC plant has failed prematurely, system performance is sub-standard, or property damage has resulted from leaks or fires due to system failures.
The art of gathering and examining information, analysis and undertaking root cause analysis requires a unique blend of practical and theoretical skills built on years of industry experience. We are able to act as expert witnesses for key clients, insurance companies or legal representatives on a case by case basis.
