Auckland airport controls upgrade

The brief:

Auckland Airport needed the air-conditioning control system in their International Terminal building upgraded to replace ageing controls and save energy.

Solution:

We’ve worked with Auckland Airport in the past on their server room project. In this case they needed engineers with expertise in both mechanical and control systems. Our project scope was to upgrade the controls with new equipment and incorporate energy-saving strategies. One of the key strategies was to interface with the airport’s Flight Information Display (FID) system – this is where the air conditioning responds to the movement of people through the airport based on data, working with activity in certain areas at certain times based on flight arrivals and departures.

Final outcome:

We started work in August 2014 and are due to finish mid this year. Once completed, Auckland Airport will enjoy lower running costs and future-proofing, with a system suitable for the next 20 years.
