The brief:
Neil Finn’s Roundhouse Studios is a state-of-the-art recording facility. We were asked to install an air-handling unit that would provide comfortable conditions for the musicians using the studio. Most importantly, it had to be the quietest unit we’ve designed, to meet the very demanding NC15 noise criteria to allow for clean recording.
Solution & final outcome:
We constructed the unit as a floating cell and all systems were decoupled from the studio walls to eliminate sound and vibration transmission from the recording chamber. The system was designed to use outside air for cooling when necessary. This reduces both operating costs and the carbon footprint of the studio.
